MessageGate 4.2 DVD Cover

MessageGate 4.1 distribution CD label
MessageGate is a company that develops security software for enterprise-level corporations. Their latest release of their MessageGate product needed a facelift. The distribution CDs needed to reflect a more professional image.

This design reflects improvements in the product's usability. Icons used within the product are displayed to brand the different sections of the product. The top blue portion of the disc is an abstract design, created with custom brushes and a Wacom tablet. The red strip in the logo makes the logo pop and visually seperates the abstract artwork from the product label. The size of the company's arrow logo was enhanced to make it stand out within the design. Other legal information is also printed on the disc, as well as the industry standard CD logo.

The design was created in Photoshop using a CMYK color scheme at 300dpi. TrueType fonts were used and were converted to vector shapes for printing compatibility.

This design visualizes corporate strength through design balance: the CD is divided in half using the two main colors in their original logo. The top half brands the application with a corporate watermark and typography based on their tagline "Protect. Monitor. Control." The bottom half provides legal details and version information.

The design was created in Photoshop using a CMYK color scheme at 300dpi. TrueType fonts were used and were converted to vector shapes for printing compatibility.

McCloskey Mayhem DVD cover
This DVD project was a video Christmas card to the extended McCloskey family, most of whom had not seen the family since they lived on the east coast. This DVD cover was a montage of several elements in the film. Standard industry trademark logos are incorporated, and visual cues are given to emphasize some features (for example the "widescreen" text is stretched out to specify the film's special 16x9 aspect ratio).

Standard credit and labeling format was followed, similar to other industry-standard DVD covers. This was created in Photoshop at 600dpi using a CMYK color scheme.

This was part of the DVD video postcard. The theme had to match the DVD cover, so it parallels many design aspects. The matching DVD cover's design had to be roughly based on halves because of the case spine, but I took advantage of the disc's open circular format to base the design on the "golden mean". Being off-center adds new perspective to the subject. The two "stars" of the film were portrayed on different discs. Industry standard trademarks appear on the discs.

Precise measurements were taken so the print shop could label the discs correctly. The labels were created in Photoshop using a 300dpi and CMYK color scheme. The second disc can be found here.
